Assurance Manager

Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is looking for a full-time Assurance Manager to join it’s management team in London. The Assurance Manager will manage RJC’s assurance work stream, working with the RJC Management Team and reporting to the Standards and Impacts Director. Job Purpose

The Assurance Manager will manage RJC’s assurance work stream, working with the RJC Management Team and reporting to the Standards and Impacts Director.

Role and Responsibilities

The primary areas of responsibility for the role are as follows:

1. Audit oversight program

  • Overseeing all aspects of the project to implement the oversight program.
  • Manage the follow up and updating of the oversight program.
  • Input into the auditor accreditation program.

2. Assurance data

  • Manage preparation of annual audit consistency report: gather data, prepare report, provide report analysis to each audit firm and seek a corrective action response as appropriate.
  • Manage and communicate audit data for feeding into training programme and overall monitoring and evaluation programme.

3. Managing the Accreditation and Certification Committee

  • Set up meetings, agendas and prepare supporting material (presentations, minutes).
  • Implement changes to the organisation and composition of the Committee.

4. Grievance mechanism and allegations

  • Implement the new Grievance Mechanism, preparing for internal and external communications.
  • Manage the grievances system in collaboration with the independent expert.

5. Updating and reviewing the assurance documentation

  • Compile and manage a ‘running’ log of issues from audits, certification and assurance, drawing on helpdesk questions, audit report review and audit data.
  • Develop an appropriate system for documenting decisions taken by RJC on questions from audits eg, ‘an interpretation log’ and communicating them transparently to auditors and members.
  • Provide input and implement updates to the assurance related documents (Assessment Manual and auditor guidance such as sample audit reports) address issues from the issues log.
  • Update the website on assurance information.

6. RJC auditor engagement

  • Develop an engagement programme with accredited auditors (program managers) for two-way sharing of information (eg, on the interpretation of provisions, asking for input on standards review)
  • Input to the auditor training programme, in coordination with the Training Manager. Identify training priorities and support training development.
  • Analyse current auditor coverage to identify any gaps, and develop an outreach plan to new potential auditors, if required.

7. ISEAL assurance compliance

  • Manage the annual ISEAL assurance code compliance assessment
  • Participate in the ISEAL assurance working group

8. Other

  • The Manager may be asked to support the RJC Management Team in other tasks
Skills, experience and personal qualities
  • Experience and a high level of understanding of assurance systems (auditing, compliance, certification) on environmental and social issues (labour and working conditions, responsible sourcing and Human Rights, environmental management, etc)
  • Experience of supply chain initiatives
  • Knowledge of the jewellery supply chain (mining, refining, manufacturing, retail) preferable
  • Experience working with multi-stakeholder committees
  • A diploma in a relevant field, post graduate degree is beneficial
  • High proficiency in verbal and written English, ability to communicate complex technical terms concisely (in plain English) and familiarity with the language used for standards
  • Ability to work across different disciplines and cultures
  • Ability to speak French, Italian, and other languages is beneficial

This role will be entitled to 28 days annual leave per annum pro rata plus UK bank holidays (on pro rata basis)

This role will automatically be enrolled into the RJC’s company pension scheme.
